Oxenfoord Athletic Baseball Club, more commonly known as Oxenfoord Athletic, The Towers or just Oxenfoord, is a professional baseball club in Oxenfoord, Albaland. They are one of 16 founding member clubs of the Albaland Baseball League and were the most easterly team in the competition at the time. Fans of the club are commonly referred to as Tows.
The club was formed in 1902 by Finlay Campbell to provide a platform for amateur players who had a passion for the sport but didn’t have the opportunity to play at a competitive level. The club’s focus was on providing a supportive and inclusive environment where players can develop their skills and compete against other amateur teams. Campbell chose the colours of blue and yellow for the club in honor of Sir John Dalrymple of Cousland, 4th Baronet who inherited Oxenfoord Castle which is situated in Midlothian, Scotland in 1779, where the name of the city originates from. The team began playing in a small, makeshift stadium in a field on the outskirts of the city, but quickly gained a following.
1907 and 1909 Alba Shield’s proved Oxenfoord Athletic’s most successful seasons prior to the start of the Albaland Baseball League when they reached the Third Round both times, having being eliminated by Forteviot Fire in the First Round in 1908.
The team began playing in a small, makeshift stadium in a field on the outskirts of the city, but quickly gained a following and by 1904 moved to their current home known as Grebe Avenue Ballpark which was originally located in a large underused dockyards before being converted into a trendy boardwalk area for tourists in the 1970s. The ballpark slightly favours hitters and is famously known for its 59-foot high wall in right field protecting an old bakery that has since made way for most seating. The wall drops down to 10 feet in center right before falling away to just 9 feet in left field. The ground is a rite of passage for many Albaland baseball fans for its “bobblehead museum” that displays a collection of bobblehead dolls of famous baseball players and team mascots throughout history.
The team plays in yellow and blue.
