Exning City Baseball Club, normally known as Exning City, is a professional baseball club located in Exning, Novainsula. The club was one of the first members of the Novainsula Baseball Federation in 1915 and a founding member of the Elite 14 in 1917. The club is affectionately known as ‘The E‘s’.
History
The club’s inception dates back to January 22, 1900, when a group of local businessmen and sports enthusiasts, led by the visionary entrepreneur George Anderson, came together with the shared goal of founding a club that would embody the community’s passion for sport and strengthen the city’s social fabric.
Exning City’s formative years were marked by a concerted effort to build a solid foundation for the club, both in terms of infrastructure and team composition. The construction of the Exning Diamond, a state-of-the-art baseball stadium for the time, commenced in late 1910 and was completed by mid-1912. The clubs first recorded game in the new stadium was against a local amateur side, with Exning City prevailing, 11-6. This period also saw the recruitment of players, led by coach and former professional player Thomas Richards, and is widely regarded as the first club to turn professional in the country. The club’s strategy was to blend local talent with experienced players from outside the region, aiming to foster a strong team dynamic and a competitive edge. In 1915, amidst these developmental strides, Exning City received an invitation to join the Novainsula Baseball Federation (NBF), a newly established league aimed at promoting baseball in the broader Novainsula region. After careful deliberation, the club’s management, recognizing the potential for growth and broader exposure, decided to affiliate with the NBF.
