1890 Ängelar Social Klub, usually known as 1890 Ängelar SK, is a professional baseball club located in Ängelar, Eveleigh, Koana Islands. The clubs nickname is Armada, due to the proximity of a massive Naval shipyard in the city.
The club was established on February 24, 1890, initially serving as a sports and recreation organization catering to individuals associated with the fishing industry. However, it wasn’t until 1893 that they began playing baseball, having previously prioritized activities such as golf, polo, fishing, and swimming. They joined the Eveleigh Basebollskonferensen in 1893, finishing fourth in their debut season. Their subsequent performances were impressive, winning the league in both 1894 and 1895.
Following the dissolution of the Eveleigh Basebollskonferensen at the end of the 1895 season, 1890 Ängelar embarked on a nationwide exhibition tour before being approached by Niclas Nordin to join the Nationella Basebolligan in 1897, becoming a founding member. After the merger of the NBL and Super Ligan, the club spent eight years in Division Ett, winning the division title in 1907 to earn promotion to the Super Ligan for the first time. After a two year stay in the top flight, 1890 Ängelar were relegated back down to Division Ett..
1890 Ängelar plays out of Lexby Parkera known for it’s shallow right field that assists power-hitting lefties. The stadium was first invested in prior to 1897 when team owner Leo Fendrich built seating for 2,000 fans near home plate that also included a wooden hut near the home-teams dugout by first base for the players wives to watch the games. The hut was knocked down in 1910, but the grandstand bears the name “Fruar står”, or “Wives Stand” in tribute to the old wooden hut.
